Happy Valentine's Day, Wendy!

This weekend we share "Love Letters", for you to enjoy whether you live in Silver City.... or Beyond!

In recognition of Valentine’s Day we present “Love Letters”, featuring Jim and Phyllis McQuaide.  The McQuaides are accomplished performers who have appeared in numerous productions in Silver City and in Maine, and they have been mainstays of SCCT Radio Hour on KURU since its inception last March of 2021.

"Love Letters’ is a play by A. R. Gurney that was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama,” according to Ms McQuaide.

“The play centers on two characters, Melissa Gardner and Andrew Makepeace Ladd III. Using the letter form in which the characters sit side by side and read the notes, letters and cards – in which over nearly 50 years they discuss their hopes and ambitions, dreams and disappointments, victories and defeats – that have passed between them throughout their separated lives. We last performed “Love Letters” in 2019. It is one of our favorites. This time we will present it in two parts on the Sundays before and after February 14th.”

Happy Valentines Day!

Sun 2/27:

The Young Players of Aldo Leopold Charter School are featured once again in this, our 2nd episode of Season 3. We begin with "The Enchanted Forest", by James M. Barrie, a golden age of radio script from the genericradio.com library, followed by 2 modern plays from our friends at dramanotebook.com: "The Tablecloth", by Donald A Reasoner, Jr., and "The Search for a Director", by Mariah Beachboard.

In between the shows we’ll listen to a few Lewis Carroll poems: The Jabberwocky, and I’ll Tell Thee Everything I Can.

"The Tablecloth" is a short play based on a short story that first appeared in Reader's Digest and attributed to Howard C. Shade. A pastor and his wife take over a struggling church with a dilapidated building shortly after WWII. After a terrible storm causes damage to one of the walls in old building, the pastor finds a beautiful embroidered tablecloth at a flea market that will cover the damage perfectly. But little does the pastor know that his purchase of the tablecloth will miraculously reunite a husband and wife who thought they would never see one another again.

About "The Search for a Director":

This piece was written for a directing class. The challenge of a class on directing is that the showcase must highlight the concepts learned within a small amount of time. One option is to have each student direct a short piece. Or use a script like this one. It highlights “bad” directors with terrible qualities, and “good” directors who motivate and lead. It also reveals how actors are responsible for their behavior toward the director as well. This is a fun and silly piece with a great message on the relationship between actor and director.

Happy February!
